All funeral directors are legally required to publish this standardised price list for a set of products and services. This is to help you think through your options, make informed choices, and compare prices between different funeral directors — because prices can vary significantly.

Attended Funeral

Attended Funeral — Funeral Director's Charges Only

This is a funeral where family and friends attend a ceremony, event or service for the deceased person at the same time as the burial or cremation takes place.

Taking care of all necessary legal and administrative arrangements £1,215.00
Collecting and transporting the deceased person from the place of death (normally within 15 miles of our premises) into our care £200.00
Care of the deceased person before the funeral in appropriate facilities. The deceased will be kept at George Scott & Son Funeral Directors' premises £190.00
Providing a suitable coffin — made from veneered oak £395.00
Viewing of the deceased person for family and friends, by appointment (where viewing is requested) £0.00
At a date and time agreed with you, taking the deceased person direct to the agreed cemetery or crematorium (normally within 20 miles) in a hearse with four bearers £495.00

Unattended Funeral

This is a funeral where family and friends may choose to have a separate ceremony, event or service for the deceased person, but they do not attend the burial or cremation itself.

Fees You Must Pay

In addition to our charges, the following fees are payable to third parties. These are not included in our funeral director charges above.

Third-Party Fees (Typical Local Costs)

Burial fee — for an attended or unattended burial funeral.
Typical cost for local residents. For a new grave, you will also need to pay for the plot. For an existing grave with a memorial, you may need to pay a removal/replacement fee. The cemetery may charge additional fees.

Note: In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you will usually need to pay doctors' fees as well — the charge for two doctors to sign the Medical Certificates for Cremation. Please discuss any specific religious, belief-based and/or cultural requirements with us.
