The Harry Tomes Legacy

We understand how difficult this time is and so our principal purpose has always been to offer as much or as little support as is wanted and needed. As such, our experience team is available twenty-four hours per day, three hundred and sixty-five days per year and we have a range of services to suit different tastes, budgets, and requirements.

Harry Tomes was founded before World War II by the late Harry Tomes and assisted by his wife, Phyllis, we started as a Taxi, Coach & Private Hire company. After his return from the war, he started receiving requests for funeral services, so he purchased a hearse.

Harry’s warm and caring personality meant he soon became the person of choice when bereavement struck, so in the 1950’s, he transitioned his business to concentrate solely on the funeral service.

Our premises used to be, ‘Barham House’ named in memory of Harry George Barham Tomes and until recently, Trevor, Adrian and Andrew, Harry’s three sons, continued the tradition of serving the community. They were committed to adhering to the values of personal care and attention so very important during the time of loss. Whilst we have now moved to join George Scott Funeral Services, we share the same values and uphold the same level of service.
